Census 2000 - Swiss Federal Statistical Office
The first e-government solution for all of Switzerland

‘The method we selected for carrying out complex data collection is unique in the world. It helped us reduce costs, and results are now also available much faster than before. But being a pioneer also comes with risks. The key to success, therefore, was in finding the right partners. In Interact Consulting, we have found the right partner, and we would do this project with them again any time.’ |

Switzerland takes a census every ten years, a practice that was first started in 1850. The national census has become a crucial planning and decision-making tool for politicians, businesses and society. Determined to reduce costs and still obtain results faster than before, Switzerland has, for the first time in the history of its census, outsourced routine census work to a service center. It handled mail management (pre-printing, packaging and distribution of census documentation) and the response audits, as well as all the tasks related to the collection and checking of data and evaluation of questionnaires.
Based on a public tender, the Swiss Federal Statistical Office awarded the contract to Interact Consulting as a technology partner for the planning, development and realization of the service center for the Swiss census 2000. Together they redesigned the total process for the 2000 census and created a new processing concept.
