With a population of about 370,000, Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and, as such, also has the largest tax office in the country. As a service center for other communities and the Canton of Zurich, the Tax Office of the City of Zurich processes 32 million pages of an approximate total of 730,000 tax returns a year. This is a considerable volume of paper that has to be processed periodically and repeatedly in a quick and reliable manner.

Thanks to the project TIM (Total Image Management), the Tax Office of the City of Zurich achieved an ambitious goal: each tax return is picked up by hand only once - when it is received. CaptureTax has allowed for all incoming mail to be automated and to be seamlessly integrated into specialist systems. Now personnel can be deployed efficiently and to specific tasks; thanks to the data being read out from tax files and its transfer to an electronic file, the downstream processes have been automated to a high degree.
